If your Ford Taurus’s engine timing is off, it’s going to stall out, misfire, and altogether not run properly. What causes a Ford Taurus engine to stall? The symptoms of a bad fuel pump match a lot of other common problems that can occur in the Ford Taurus.

What does a bad fuel pump sound like?Ī priming fuel pump sounds like a high-pitched whine for a few seconds and can be heard with a sharp engine right after the ignition key is turned, but before the starter is engaged. If the fuse stays good then the problem is in the pump harness or the fuel pump itself. Try it again, if the fuse pops then your short is before that point likely a chafed wire on the body. If the fuse blows as soon as you turn on the key, undo the connector at the tank to the pump and put in a new fuse. What causes the fuse to blow on a fuel pump? With that in mind, most of the symptoms of a bad fuel pump revolve around the vehicle stalling out or not running at all. Without gas your Taurus will not run at all. If your Ford Taurus’s fuel pump goes bad, no fuel (or not enough fuel depending on whether or not it’s out all the way) can enter the engine. Here you will find fuse box diagrams of Ford Taurus 1996, 1997, 19, get information about the location of the fuse panels inside the car, and learn about the assignment of each fuse (fuse layout) and relay. In this article, we consider the third-generation Ford Taurus, produced from 1996 to 1999. When did the Ford Taurus fuse box come out? While being in the fuel tank makes the pump more reliable, it also makes it a lot more difficult to get to. It is in the fuel tank because “pushing” fuel to the fuel rail is easier than “pulling” the fuel, which is what an inline pump would do. Keeping an open ear can save you from getting stuck somewhere with a bad fuel pump. The whining sound can indicate that the fuel pump is going out before there are any performance based issues. Here are the most common symptoms of a bad fuel pump in your Ford Taurus: One of the most common signs that a fuel pump is going bad is a whining sound. What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump? My guess that the fuel pump itself is likely faulty and is drawing too much current. Fuses are designed to protect a circuit by “blowing” when too much current is being drawn. The fuel pump is then switched on and off via a relay that is controlled by the engine control module (ECM).

I really cant afort to take it in for repairs. Why does the fuel pump keep blowing the fuse? if you have any ideas please please let me know. If my dad knows what wrong with it he can fix it, but the problem we are having is finding the problem. we bought a owner manual, but off course the one shown in the diagrams does not even come close to anything on my car, so he is not sure whitch relay it is! or even if it is a relay! we are towing it to a mechanic friend down the road, and he is going to hook it up to the computer to get a diagnostic code. But he believes that it has to be on of the relays. I have a feeling that hes making it worse(lol). SO we tried switching the relays around and now we have no fuel pressure.

So we rest the emergancy fuel shut off switch again.
Ford taurus fuel pump problems full#
The full pump seems to be working just fine. My dad did it, i am just there to hand him the tools because its my car. we checked to see if the fuel pump is working by hooking up to a voltage machine. We have looked at the fuel filter and it is fine.
